Autopsy Shows No Brains; Media and Congress in Similar State

OK, they did the autopsy. The brain was half its former size. No, she did not recognize people. She was blind, and she didn't know she was blind, because she couldn't think about that or anything else because she had no cerebrum. Nor did medical reports show any abuse.


Daily Times:

"This damage was irreversible, and no amount of therapy or treatment would have regenerated the massive loss of neurons," said Pinellas-Pasco County Medical Examiner Dr. Jon Thogmartin, who led the autopsy team. Schiavo, he added, was blind, because the "vision centers of her brain were dead."

Did Bill Frist apologize for using his status as a physician to challenge a diagnosis from afar, without examining the patient?


WaPo:

"Would I do it over again? Yes, I would do it over again," the senator told reporters. Frist, R-Tenn., said he had only sought to make sure the most up-to-date testing was performed to determine whether Schiavo was truly in a persistent vegetative state, the diagnosis accepted by state courts.

He's lying. WaPo:

"I question it based on a review of the video footage. ... And that footage, to me, depicted something very different than persistent vegetative state," Frist said at the time. He also said that "she certainly seems to respond to visual stimuli."

Oh, Doctor!

Surely, though, Schiavo's parents now accept reality, and will call off their mad crusade, perhaps with an apology of their own.

OK, but we know that at least the news media, responsible news organizations that they are, will issue some kind of statements that they might have gone a little over the edge in whipping up a newsworthy furor over the plight of this unfortunate woman.
