"Some of the station managers were made these offers last March by Bessie Wash, and it's been like a standing offer, whenever you leave, this is what you get. And I guess Garland decided that he'd better leave before the Board meeting in case the Board said somehow to cancel his offers. Now I understand why he resigned before the Board meeting not afterwords.
But I understant there is one station manager over in Los Angeles Mark Schubb who is still insisting he's owed nine months severance, 24 weeks vacation, nine months COBRA, a laptop computer, and additional accrued vacation, and this guy's only worked at Pacifica for six years.
Now, you know, I've worked in corporate America in major for-profit companies for years, and your average severance if you're lucky at a company is two weeks for every year worked, and if they decide to sweeten it because they're trying to get all the workers to retire they might give you a little more. But the idea that you would get nine months pay for five years work is astounding. But this is the kind of stuff that was going on. And I'm talking about for-profit companies that actually had the money to make these kinds of offers, not a non-profit like Pacifica that's always struggling."
Again, Schubb's Severance Claim:
9 months pay - approx. $ 54,000
24 weeks vacation- approx. $ 36,000
9 months COBRA (est.) $ 9,000
laptop computer (est.) $ 3,000
additional vacation $ ?????
total: $102,000 +
another source claims that Schubb is also seeking $4,000 for damage done to his car by "dissidents."
