What a great atmosphere in the station!
Fri Feb 22 11:33:00 2002

Last night was so special for many of us....activist/listeners were throughout the station, preparing food, arranging hospitality for phonebankers...chatting with Verna Avery Brown and Dan Coughlin and exchanging ideas with Lyn Gerry...there was a real sense that it was once again a community station....and the staff is so hospitable and welcoming AND grateful for the outpouring of support by listeners. One grassroots organization had eight of their volunteers in the phone room!

Last year the National Lawyers Guild show [7-8 on Thursdays] brought in $500 to $600....last night's special program with scores of community activists calling in by phone and several LAB members in studio brought in over $12,000!

Support for the show was unbelievable...a couple in Westchester pledge $2000 and there were many $500 contributions and the working poor were calling in with those wonderful $15 and $25 contributions.

There is no gloating about victory in the station. There is a sense of team effort and a cooperative spirit and many inside the station, who were at first very suspicious of us, are opening up and saying, "Let's get on with it....let's save this station together." Yes, last night was a special evening at KPFK.
